4th Quarter 2026 Market Comments

Hi everyone - Another quarter, another pricing update. Here's hoping for a bump in all your collection values! Below you'll find my usual semi-random ramblings. I'm very pressed for time today, so this may be a short one, hope you enjoy anyway. Premium Subscribers, watch your inbox for some cool news this month.

Fantastic Comics #3 (Fox, 1940) CGC GD+ 2.5, $134,200.00
Fantastic Comics #3 (Fox, 1940) CGC GD+ 2.5, $134,200.00

This book has been insane for over a year now, and it's not slowing down. Last quarter, couldn't believe a CGC GD+ was nearing $100,000.00, now, tack on another 30+%! I knew it was an iconic cover ages ago, but never would have expected this - high demand in any grade. Think about this, in 2014 a CGC GD+ went for less than 10 grand.

Suspense Comics #3 (Continental Magazines, 1944) CGC GD+ 2.5, $97,600.00

Same story here - I figured last quarter this book had to be maxed out for awhile. It used to be thought to be pretty rare (Scarce in Overstreet?), but recently Gary Carter stated, not so much, and the CGC Census confirms that with over 50 slabbed copies now. Still, that's not a ton for such a sought-after book. And the cover will always be iconic. Another CGC GD+ at the hundred grand mark! Nazis and bondage, Alex Schomburg nailed this one.

Amazing Spider-Man #252 Newsstand Edition (Marvel, 1984) CGC MT 9.9, $73,200.00
Amazing Spider-Man #252 Newsstand Edition (Marvel, 1984) CGC MT 9.9, $73,200.00

Think about this one - $73 Grand for a 1980s Amazing Spider-Man. Nothing scarce about the issue. Now, the buyer clearly thought there is something very scarce about a CGC 9.9 Newsstand Edition of the classic AF 15 Homage Black Costume cover. And for sure, that is scarce. But only if you put great faith in the ability of CGC to accurately slice that fine line between a 9.8 and a 9.9. Nothing I'd put tens of thousands of dollars on, personally. Maybe the thought is, this is not just a 9.9 (there are several) but this is the only CGC certified 9.9 Newsstand Edition. Well I sure hope the buyer knew CGC has not been calling out Newsstand Editions for all that long. Borock started that, over at the now defunct CBCS. It wasn't until many years later that CGC caved and started noting them as well. Also, remember, the ratio of Direct Market / Newsstand Edition was not constant over time.

Spook #23 Bethlehem Pedigree (Star Publications, 1953) CGC NM- 9.2, $34,160.00
Spook #23 Bethlehem Pedigree (Star Publications, 1953) CGC NM- 9.2, $34,160.00

I guess we have a theme now, for this update, we'll call it Through The Roof. You know I love these L.B. Cole covers, no matter what the genre, but especially when he was out there. Anybody know if he did his own cover colors? After all these years, you'd think I would have dug into that. If only there was a way we could all find out, LOL! Anyway, don't hate on me, but here I go again: in 2012, a CGC 9.2 (yes, same grade) sold for under $600!

Cinderella Love #25 (St. John, 1954) CGC VG/FN 5.0, $29,280.00
Cinderella Love #25 (St. John, 1954) CGC VG/FN 5.0, $29,280.00

Some books just don't know when to stop. People still go rabid over a good Matt Baker cover, and I gotta admit this one is pretty damn good. I love the extra effort to pack multiple detailed scenes within the scene. This one went for way over the previous quarter's already really high CGC 5.0 value.

Weird Mysteries #5 (Gillmor, 1953) CGC FN+ 6.5, $26,840.00
Weird Mysteries #5 (Gillmor, 1953) CGC FN+ 6.5, $26,840.00

Gillmor. Pre-Code Horror. Brain Transplant. Ka-Ching! Mic drop and I'm out, lol.
